When people ask my what my favorite food is, naturally it is going to be burritos in keeping with the naming of this site. But as my tastes mature and I'm willing to try a broader spectrum of things, great pizza is quickly becoming my most sought after dish.
Back when we lived in Mission or main staples were Papa Johns and Little Cesaers, which were not very fulfilling aside from making you not want to eat pizza again for a while. The main thing that helped me get through this period was our regular visits to Old Chicago. I frequented them mainly due to the fact that I wanted to obtain the holy grail AKA completion of the World Beer Tour. In fact, I just finished my first 110-beer tour a couple weeks back and am looking forward to my name plate going on the 'Wall of Foam' at the Olathe location. I also had my favorite pizza of all time there with their cheeseburger pizza. If you get it on deep dish, it really tastes like a cheeseburger, especially since the sauce has been completely replaced with ketchup and mustard. For more standard fair, the buffalo chicken, Hawaiian and the Toas are all awesome.
But the true reason for this entry is the pizza love I have found around our home-base in Lenexa. Right down the street from our house is a place called Stonewall Pizza (next to Stonewall Inn). Stonewall is the perfect place to go for some late evening, outdoor eating in the summer months. They have great New York-style pizza. We normally grab the namesake pizza, which has everything on it and your choice of meat, and then a couple pitchers of Bud Light (only option) to wash it down. I have yet to leave the place unsatisfied.
Friday night though, we had our first taste of Wheat State Pizza. After one trip, I can safely say this will be where we order any take home pizza for as long as we live in Kansas. We had passed the location in downtown Overland Park multiple times, and it had been recommended to the wife, so when we couldn't decide on a place the other night, we decided to roll the dice. Their thin and hand-tossed wheat bread crusts are pure insanity. We got a Luau (standard Hawaiian with spinach leaves) and a Strangler (BBQ chicken plus hot sauce)...loved both immensely. If it wasn't for the fact that Stonewall is so close, the OP location also has some outdoor seating and a window you can grab everything from. So if you live on the Kansas-side of KC, I highly suggest checking them out in the downtown OP and Shawnee locations.

You should be eating at Papa Keno's about 2 blocks north of Wheat State. They have Free State beer on tap, not that swill, Bud Light. The pizza is second best in KC, D'Bronx is better, and you can get pitchers of Free State. Really you can't beat it.
Did I mention they have Free State on tap?
Don't tell me you haven't tried Minski's on Main.
Minsky's = awful
I have eaten at three different Minsky's, each worse than the next. I'm not sure I have the stomach to attempt another location.
Mmm.. I've been wanting to make a visit to Wheat State pizza for awhile now. I highly support blog posts discussing pizza err..food in general.
mmmmm Beer... As a resident in L-Town, I have not really looked for a good pizza place. Well now I know better. Will give them a look-see.
No one mentions The Dish in Liberty?!? Amazing pizza, and your only option for a frozen pizza.
